It’s almost Christmas season and it’s time to start looking for Presents for those hard-to-shop-for men in our family. I know how difficult it can be because I get charged with the task most years! I got smart this year though and I believe shopping (for the men anyway) is going to be a snap!
The tough thing about finding good gifts for men is the fact that they already have everything they really need (usually) and the things that they really want are way too expensive. I just can’t see forking out over a thousand dollars for a flat screen tv my father in law will just put in the bathroom!
There is an easy solution to this Gift shopping nightmare though. Don’t buy them gifts “for men”… think of them as little boys instead. That’s all grown men are anyway- just little boys in big boy clothes! You’d be surprised at how excited they can get over toys and Gag Gifts that normally live in the store section targeted for twelve year old boys. I have watched my father in-law play for hours with a twenty-dollar remote control helicopter in the living room… only to go outside and fly his remote control plane through the power lines. One of my friends, in his early forties, can get weeks of fun at work out of simple gag gifts (stink bombs are his favorite).
Your shopping for these hard to please men can be successfully accomplished with a few clicks of the mouse and no need to wade through the flood of holiday mall shoppers. You don’t even have to think that hard about it- just picture each man as a twelve year old boy and ask yourself: “What would get this boy in trouble at school?” Or: “What would this boy try to sneak into church- only to get a whipping for it later?” In fact, if you want to do some advanced research, call each one up and ask them how they used to get in trouble as a child. That will provide you with all the clues you need to find the perfect gift!
So forget ties and socks and shirts and wallets. Nobody really wants other people picking out these items for them. And please, don’t buy another coffee shop gift card- they just make bulging wallets hurt that much more. Think Pranks and tanks; itching powder and remote control toys. Get them something that will return them to their childhood. Something fun and ridiculous and… well, from their point of view, wonderful!
